How to Use Keywords and Automations for P2P Texting

Last month, Hustle rolled out our newest feature set: Keywords and Automations!

These new tools are designed to make it easier to connect with your audience in ways that relate to their specific preferences, and to manage how supporters and customers communicate with your organization.

Using Keywords and Automations, admins can identify specific words and phrases that initiate one or more actions within the Hustle platform automatically. Automations are available when audiences respond with keywords or when admins want to initiate conversation with audiences based on events that take place. Automations for peer-to-peer by design do not include automated messaging for compliance purposes. You can learn more about the feature set (including message series!) as a whole on our help site here.

In this blog post, we’re exploring how Keywords and Automations can take your P2P texting strategy to the next level. Keywords and Automations are a great way to manage individual contacts and provide them with quick ways to share preferences or details about themselves. You can use the examples below as inspiration for your own audience.

Scenario 1: capturing typos

One of the biggest issues facing customers is when an audience member replies with a typo or common misspelling of a keyword like SOTP when attempting to opt out. Customers would have to manually go through conversations and opt out these people. Now, with automations, misspellings and typos can be accounted for by adding more than one keyword to an automation.

Scenario 2: language preferences

A similar process can be followed for audiences if you’re looking to understand their language preferences. By creating tags and associated automations based on languages (e.g. English, Spanish, Tagalog, etc), contacts can be automatically moved into a group so that in the future, they’ll be sure to receive communications in their preferred language.

Scenario 3: outreach preference requests

Some contacts may prefer to fully opt out of receiving messages, but others may only want certain types. For example, you may have a contact who wants to know about events, but doesn’t want to be solicited. In this case, you could use keywords and automated tag application to note their preference for future segmentation.

These are just a few ways admins and agents can work together to make the most out of Keywords and Automations. We’re so excited to hear how you’re using Keywords and Automations in your campaigns. If you have any feedback, you can reach out to us directly at [email protected].
