GOTV from your Inbox: six tips for the final week before Election Day

The fastest way to run the last week of GOTV in Hustle is to launch every goal from the Inbox: Broadcast for your target Groups, the Dialer for shift confirmations, P2P for text banking, and Keywords and Automations for questions voters ask most.

Election Day is November 3. Each of these tools is already in your Hustle account, and they share one Inbox, one phone number, and one conversation history of who you reached. That means each goal can build on the results of the last one, so your team only spends time on voters who need the nudge.

TL;DR

  1. Text multiple Groups with a single Broadcast.
  2. Confirm volunteer shifts with the Dialer, with a reminder text from the same number.
  3. Text bank with P2P from the Inbox, with batch sending.
  4. Answer common questions with Keywords and Automations.
  5. Follow up with anyone who didn’t reply.
  6. Stop contacting people who voted.

Tip 1 of 6

Text multiple Groups with a single Broadcast

Set up separate Groups for your GOTV targets, your vote-by-mail chase targets, and people who already voted. Some targets need more than one Group, and a single Broadcast Texting goal can target every contact across those Groups at once. Every target hears from you in one send.

Tip 2 of 6

Confirm volunteer shifts with the Dialer

Call volunteers with the Dialer to confirm their shifts. If they don’t pick up, send a reminder text in the same thread. Because the Dialer and texts share the Inbox’s phone number, the volunteer sees one number and one conversation instead of a missed call from a stranger and a text from somewhere else.

Pro tip: Making calls with the Dialer doesn’t require a TCR campaign, so you can start shift calls even while texting registration is in progress.

Tip 3 of 6

Text bank with P2P using the Inbox

Run your P2P goals from the Inbox. With peer-to-peer texting, agents send initial messages in batches, more than one message with each click, so your team gets through every target on the list. A live person is still there to handle each reply, so the last week is full of real conversations.

Tip 4 of 6

Answer common questions with Keywords and Automations

Set up Keywords and Automations to handle common replies and FAQs, like where to vote, polling hours, or how to request a ride. Agents can then focus on the conversations that create connection. Automations work across every Inbox goal, including Broadcast, Dialer, and P2P.

Tip 5 of 6

Follow up with anyone who didn’t reply

Build your next goal from the results of the last one. Goal Results targeting lets you pick contacts who were or were not reached in a previous Broadcast, P2P, or Dialer goal. No reply to a P2P text? Give them a call. No answer? Send a text. Each pass narrows the list to the people you still need to reach.

Tip 6 of 6

Stop contacting people who already voted

When you have a record that someone voted, add them to an Already Voted Audience and exclude that Audience from every goal you launch. Your volunteers spend their time on voters who need a nudge, and voters who already cast a ballot stop hearing from you.

Pro tip: Targeting locks when a goal launches. Update your Already Voted Audience with the latest vote history before you launch each new goal.

Admin action before you start

Set up an Inbox and associate it with a TCR campaign now to avoid any delays before you send messages from it. Making calls with the Dialer doesn’t require a TCR campaign, but sending texts does. See How do I set up an Inbox? and How do I register for 10DLC with Hustle?

Frequently asked questions

What is the Hustle Inbox?

The Inbox is where Broadcast, Dialer, and P2P goals send from and where every reply lands. Each Inbox has its own phone number, so calls and texts to the same contact stay in one conversation thread.

Do I need a TCR campaign to text from the Inbox?

When using familiar 10-digit local area numbers, yes. Sending texts from an Inbox requires a phone number and an approved TCR campaign for US organizations. Making calls with the Dialer does not require a TCR campaign. Set this up before your final week so nothing is delayed.

Can one Broadcast reach more than one Group?

Yes. Broadcast goals can target contacts across multiple Groups at once, so you can message every GOTV target in a single send instead of building one Broadcast per Group.

How do I follow up with people who didn’t reply?

Use Goal Results targeting. When you build your next goal, target contacts who were or were not reached in a previous Broadcast, P2P, or Dialer goal. For example, call everyone who didn’t reply to a P2P text, then text everyone who didn’t answer the call.

How do I stop texting people who already voted?

Add voters you have a record for to an Already Voted Audience, then target contacts who are not in that Audience when you build each goal. Targeting locks when a goal launches, so update the Audience before you launch the next goal.

Do Keywords and Automations work in every Inbox goal?

Yes. Automations work across Inbox goals including Broadcast, Dialer, and P2P, so common questions like polling location or hours get an instant answer no matter which goal the contact replied to.
